PMU aftercare that actually works (and the myths to ignore)
The healing weeks make or break your result. Here's the aftercare protocol we send home with every client — and the common advice we tell people to ignore.
The two weeks after your PMU appointment matter almost as much as the appointment itself. What you do — and don't do — determines how much pigment stays in your skin and how even the final color turns out.
The core rules are simple. Keep it clean. Keep it dry for the first 24 hours. After that, gently rinse with a fragrance-free cleanser twice a day. Pat dry, never rub. Apply the aftercare balm we send home with you in a very thin layer — thin enough that it's barely visible. Too much balm suffocates the skin and can lift pigment.
Do not: touch, pick, scratch, or scrub the area. Do not swim, use hot tubs, or take long hot showers. Do not sweat heavily (skip the gym for a week). Do not use retinol, exfoliants, or actives near the treated area for 2 weeks. Do not apply makeup over the area until it's fully peeled and healed — usually day 10 to 14.
Sun exposure is the biggest long-term threat to your PMU. UV breaks pigment down faster than anything else. In the first 4 weeks, keep the area completely out of the sun — wear a hat, use SPF 30+ once the skin is fully healed (not during peeling). Ongoing, wear SPF on your brows and lips whenever you're outside. This is the single biggest thing you can do to make your PMU last longer.
Myths to ignore: "vaseline is fine" (it isn't — use the balm we send home). "Coconut oil is a natural healer" (it's not sterile and can cause infection). "You can just cover it with concealer when you go out" (you can't, not for 2 weeks). "If the color fades quickly it means you didn't do enough sessions" (no — it often means aftercare wasn't followed).
Follow the protocol we send home with you. It's specific, it's short, and it works. Text us with questions anytime during the heal. That's what we're here for.
